Director, IT Security and Infrastructure

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, we are seeking a Director, IT Security and Infrastructure.

In this role, you will be responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of IT operations, infrastructure, and cybersecurity across the University.

You will provide strategic technology and security guidance aligned with institutional priorities, supporting the student, faculty, and employee experience while ensuring the stability, security, and scalability of the University’s technology environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop IT strategy, budgeting and planning, and project prioritization aligned with organizational goals.
  • Oversee vendor management, contracts, renewals, and budgets, ensuring strong vendor relationships and effective service delivery.
  • Lead a team of infrastructure and security professionals, providing guidance on system configuration, troubleshooting, architecture decisions, and technology implementations.
  • Mentor, coach, and support team members, fostering a knowledge‑sharing environment that prioritizes communication, continuous learning, teamwork, and skills development.
  • Oversee infrastructure planning and deployment, including technical oversight and support for infrastructure platforms, system configuration, incident management, and change management.
  • Ensure scalability, capacity, reliability, security, performance, and flexibility to meet short‑ and long‑term business needs.
  • Collaborate with business users and the IT Program Management team on infrastructure implementations and upgrade initiatives.
  • Manage business continuity and disaster recovery planning and execution.
  • Develop and execute cybersecurity policies, procedures, and technologies.
  • Improve and re‑engineer existing systems to align with business processes, tactical planning, and strategic vision.
  • Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and solutions and provide direction on what should be utilized and integrated.
  • Build and nurture external relationships, negotiate contracts, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with security and service‑level agreements.
  • Establish and maintain IT governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and security standards.
  • Build a customer‑focused IT culture that is proactive, service‑oriented, and raises the confidence level of the user community.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Progressive experience in IT operations, infrastructure, and security, including technical project management and an understanding of industry trends and strategies.
  • Proven people manager experience with inclusive working environments, team objective management, coaching, performance management, and conflict management.
  • Experience implementing and managing cybersecurity programs, including risk assessment, vulnerability management, and security incident response aligned with industry best practices.
  • Expert knowledge of cloud infrastructure, enterprise platforms, and modern IT environments, including hybrid and cloud‑based solutions.
  • In‑depth understanding of IT governance, regulatory compliance, and security standards to protect organizational systems and data.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships, influence, and demonstrate sound judgment and adaptability.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying complex technical and compliance concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Senior‑level, enterprise‑wide perspective capable of seeing connections and anticipating implications of decisions.
  • Comfortable operating in a high‑visibility, national role supporting institutional priorities and contributing directly to long‑term strategy.
Compensation

This position offers a minimum annual salary of $120,000, a midpoint of $140,000, and a maximum of $160,000.
