Senior Automation Engineer (10+ years) – Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform

Our financial services client is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer (10+ years) to design, build, and operationalize enterprise automation using Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) – 41155.

Location: Toronto – hybrid, onsite 2x/week.

Contract Duration: 1 year (possibility of extension and conversion to FTE).

Schedule: 9am‑5pm Monday‑Friday; 37.5 hrs/week (possible OT).

Business Group: GTEP – Global Platform Engineering.

Project: AAP rollout (Ansible Automation Platform).

This role operates within the Automation Centre of Excellence (CoE) and is responsible for delivering scalable, secure, and compliant automation across hybrid infrastructure environments. The contractor will contribute to enterprise standards, support platform reliability, and drive transformation initiatives to migrate legacy automation platforms (e.g., vRA, Salt Stack, One Fuse) to AAP.

• Enterprise Impact: Contribute to a large‑scale automation transformation, including migration to Ansible AAP.
• CoE Model: Work within a mature Automation Centre of Excellence defining enterprise standards and platforms.
• Modern Stack: Hands‑on with AAP, Open Shift Virtualisation, VMware, Service Now, and Vault technologies.
• Hybrid Cloud Exposure: Deliver automation across private cloud, Azure, and GCP environments.
• Security & Compliance Focus: Build solutions aligned to CIS benchmarks and regulated financial standards.
• High‑Visibility Work: Engage in strategic initiatives with strong leadership exposure.

• Configure, manage, and support AAP components including Automation Controller, Private Automation Hub, and Event‑Driven Ansible (EDA).
• Maintain inventories, credentials, RBAC, job templates, and workflows to support enterprise‑scale automation.
• Support platform operations including troubleshooting, incident response, and lifecycle management.

• Design, develop, and maintain reusable Ansible roles, collections, and playbooks for infrastructure provisioning and lifecycle management across RHEL and Windows environments.
• Build and manage certified execution environments using ansible‑builder, including dependency and image management.
• Apply enterprise automation standards, including idempotent design, testing, and code quality practices.
• Integrate AAP with enterprise systems including Service Now (ITSM/CMDB), credential management platforms (Cyber Ark / Hashi Corp Vault), and vulnerability tools (e.g., Tenable).
• Enable self‑service automation capabilities by integrating AAP with provisioning and catalogue platforms (e.g., Cloud Bolt).

• Support migration of legacy automation platforms (vRA, Salt Stack, One Fuse) by translating existing provisioning logic into scalable Ansible playbooks, roles, and workflows.
• Ensure functional parity, documentation, and maintainability of migrated automation assets.

• Implement automation aligned to CIS benchmarks and internal security standards, including vulnerability remediation and continuous compliance.
• Ensure all solutions comply with Scotiabank IS&C security controls, including identity, access management, auditability, and data protection requirements.
• Produce audit‑ready documentation, runbooks, and artifacts to support SOX and regulatory requirements.

• Automate provisioning and lifecycle management of workloads on VMware vSphere and/or Red Hat Open Shift Virtualisation (Kube Virt).
• Contribute to enterprise image lifecycle pipelines and ensure consistency across private cloud, Azure, and GCP environments.

• Work within a federated Automation CoE model, enforcing standards while enabling domain teams to develop automation aligned with enterprise guardrails.
