About the Role

As the Data Governance Sr Manager, you will lead and manage Canadian Banking (CB) data governance activities, improving data quality and protecting sensitive information assets.

What You’ll Be Doing

Establish and ensure adherence to CIBC data governance policies and procedures, define, develop, and maintain business processes for successful data governance and quality within Commercial Banking, and influence business decisions through data‑driven insights.

Success Strategy & Guidance
  • Provide leadership and guidance on Data Governance initiatives in CB.
  • Design and govern a data governance implementation roadmap.
  • Facilitate rollout of a CB‑wide data governance framework, focusing on data quality improvement and protection of sensitive data.
  • Define roles and responsibilities for data governance and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of principal information assets.
  • Interface with senior management to advance data quality initiatives and ensure timely escalation of issues.
  • Contribute to successful completion of data governance project deliverables and participate in project and team meetings.
  • Provide program updates at CB Data Governance Council meetings, including policy changes, quality issues, project reviews, and remediation status.
Process Management
  • Act as liaison between business, functional areas, and technology to ensure data protection requirements are clearly defined, communicated, and integrated into operational planning.
  • Maintain artifacts such as application inventories, data governance roles, council materials, Data Custody Agreements, Data Sharing Risk Assessments, and deviations tracking.
  • Facilitate development and implementation of data quality and protection standards across CB & WM.
Reporting & Analytics
  • Define performance indicators and quality metrics, ensuring compliance with data policies, standards, and adoption requirements.
  • Provide progress reports to management and oversight of periodic updates to CB Data Governance procedures.
  • Lead remediation of data governance deficiencies and monitor adherence to data policies across the organization.
  • Deliver regular status reports to senior management on program compliance and remediation efforts.
Who You Are
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supporting enterprise‑wide data governance, including measurement, monitoring, and improvement of data quality.
  • Hands‑on experience with metadata ingestion, data mapping, business lineage, policy management, governance metrics development, workflow, issue management, data stewardship, classification, or catalogue management.
  • 3 years of process engineering experience with strong process development, project management, planning, and tracking skills.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, problem‑solving, decision‑making, communication, and presentation skills to convey information at all organizational levels.
  • Strong relationship‑building and networking ability to influence stakeholders and drive outcomes.
