Lead SQL Database Engineer; Azure

As a Lead SQL Database Engineer (Azure) you will be responsible for deployment, migration, implementation, and administration of databases and support of all database environments and related applications on on‑prem and Azure SQL Databases. You are responsible for performance monitoring, security, troubleshooting, backups, error checks, and replication and work directly with other teams to triage and troubleshoot escalated issues. You install, configure, maintain and patch SQL Servers, test backup/recovery, replication, failover, and disaster recovery, deploy new database and code per change requests and provide troubleshooting and support including after‑hours support.

• Database Administration – Manage SQL Server Databases, Azure SQL databases, instances; backup and restore on‑prem and Azure SQL databases; monitor SQL Agent jobs and respond to critical job notifications on failure.
• Troubleshooting – Troubleshoot and resolve problems with production systems; escalates issues and facilitates resolution.
• Automation – Automate common management tasks using Power Shell; evaluate data access and security to ensure electronic data resources are available to authorized users and protected.
• Database Management – Automate database management tasks; assist in project planning and management with clients and other staff members; create documentation and maintenance plans; assign monitoring threshold values.
• Collaboration – Work collaboratively with the application support and development team including architects and developers to ensure project success.

• 10–12 years of experience in SQL Database Administration with a relational database.
• Experience with backup strategies, replication, and DR solutions for SQL, monitoring and tuning MS SQL Server databases for optimum performance, and a deep knowledge of indexes, index management, statistics, and performance tuning.
• Comprehensive expertise in SQL Server database administration and a thorough familiarity with the distinct capabilities and limitations of Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server deployed on Azure Virtual Machines.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or an equivalent preferred.
• Microsoft Azure Certification desired.
• Experience with Basic Power Shell and Python knowledge or any other scripting language and familiarity with SQL Integration Services, Postgres, and Oracle is an asset.
