PostgreSQL DBA – PostgreSQL Administration, Performance Tuning & High Availability

Role Description

Database Administration

• Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL databases in production and non-production environments.

• Perform database refresh activities between environments.

• Execute database patching and upgrade activities.

Architecture & Performance

• Manage PostgreSQL architecture, including memory management, indexing, and query optimization.

• Analyze query execution plans and perform performance tuning.

High Availability & Clustering

• Implement and manage repmgr clustering for high availability and failover.

• Troubleshoot and resolve cluster node failures.

Migration & Cloud Integration

• Design and execute database migration strategies from on-premises to cloud environments.

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Microsoft Azure is an asset.

Backup & Recovery

• Implement database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.

• Configure logical and physical backup strategies using native PostgreSQL tools and third-party solutions.

Replication

• Configure and manage logical and streaming replication across environments.

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience as a PostgreSQL Database Administrator in enterprise environments.

• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, including WAL, MVCC, and Vacuum processes.

• Hands-on experience with repmgr clustering, failover handling, and node recovery.

• Expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.

• Experience with migration strategies from on-premises to cloud platforms.

• Familiarity with Oracle DBA, RMAN, Golden Gate, and Exadata.

• Proficiency in backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.

• Working knowledge of logical and streaming replication.

• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Ansible and Terraform.

• Knowledge of pg Admin, Prometheus, or Grafana.

• Scripting experience with Shell, Python, or similar languages.

Job Description:

• Design, develop, and maintain applications built on IBM Financial Transaction Manager (FTM) to support core payments processing.
• Contribute to the development of payment flows supporting transaction processing.
• Build and support integrations between FTM and upstream/downstream systems using enterprise integration patterns.
• Participate in the design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application and integration issues in a complex, regulated environment.
• Collaborate with architecture, QA, and operations teams to ensure platform stability, scalability, and performance.
• Support modernization initiatives and enhancements to existing payment hub capabilities.
• Produce clear technical documentation and participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing.
