Job Description

Senior Dev Ops Engineer at a glance:

Location:

Toronto, ON

Hybrid: 3 days/week

We are seeking a technically strong Senior Dev Ops Engineer to lead the automation, reliability, and consistency of our software release processes across Digital teams. This role is focused on building and evolving the engineering capabilities that enable high‑quality, low‑friction releases — including CI/CD pipelines, automated validation steps, safe deployment patterns, and reliable rollback strategies. You will collaborate with full‑stack, data, and cloud engineering teams to ensure our release processes are secure, scalable, and aligned with modern Dev Ops and platform‑engineering practices.

The ideal candidate is an engineer at heart who can translate release requirements into automation, tooling, and best‑practice patterns adopted across teams.

Release Automation & CI/CD Ownership
  • Design, build, and optimize automated CI/CD workflows (Azure Dev Ops, Git Hub Actions) to support consistent and reliable deployments across environments.
  • Implement automated release validation steps including build verification, test gates, security scans, dependency checks, and artifact promotion.
  • Define and standardize deployment and release procedures through automation rather than manual checklists.
Safe Deployment & Rollback Engineering
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve rollback strategies (blue/green, canary, feature flags, versioned deployments).
  • Ensure that code, configuration, and infrastructure releases follow reliable versioning and traceability practices.
  • Partner with engineering teams to increase release resilience and reduce change failure rates.
  • Enable transparent release visibility by building dashboards and automated reporting (e.g., via Git Hub, Azure Dev Ops, dashboards, or observability tools).
  • Provide engineering teams with real‑time insight into deployment status, release contents, and post‑deployment health.
  • Ensure release information is accessible and self‑service rather than dependent on manual communication.
Cross‑Team Collaboration & Standards
  • Partner with QA, Cloud Engineering, and Platform Engineering to align standards for automated testing, environment readiness, and quality gates.
  • Work with product engineering teams to ensure release patterns are adopted consistently across stacks.
  • Contribute technical guidance to evolve release standards, tooling, and best practices across Digital.
  • Improve observability and deployment health monitoring using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, and/or Datadog.
  • Contribute to operational excellence by improving reliability, availability, and MTTR (mean time to recovery) of release‑related workflows.
Subject‑Matter Expertise & Mentorship
  • Act as the technical SME for release automation across Digital teams.
  • Mentor engineers on modern Dev Ops, CI/CD, Git Ops, and release engineering practices.
Recipe for Success – apply now if this sounds like you!
  • 5+ years of experience in Dev Ops, Release Engineering, SRE, Platform, or Cloud roles
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure (compute, networking, storage, identity)
  • Experience designing and supporting CI/CD pipelines (Azure Dev Ops Pipelines and/or Git Hub Actions)
  • Experience supporting containerized workloads and Kubernetes platforms (e.g., AKS)
  • Strong understanding of containerization (Docker, Helm)
  • Experience with scripting or automation using Bash, Power Shell, Python, or similar
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts (DNS, load balancing, firewalls, VPNs)
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills
  • Azure certifications: AZ‑104, AZ‑400, or AZ‑305 preferred
  • Experience with Git Ops tools or models (ArgoCD, Flux, etc.) preferred
  • Experience with policy/guardrail‑based approaches (Azure Policy, OPA/Gatekeeper) preferred
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining shared engineering standards or platform capabilities preferred

Our Total Rewards philosophy is to provide a meaningful and flexible spectrum of programs that equitably support our diverse workforce and their families and complement Kraft Heinz’ strategy and values.
