Thinkingbox is on the lookout for a proactive IT Director to lead our global technology operations from our Toronto studio. This position requires a blend of strategic oversight and hands‑on execution, ensuring that our technological infrastructure is both secure and scalable. The IT Director will play a crucial role in supporting our creative teams throughout North America and beyond, fostering an environment where innovation can thrive.

What you’ll do
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive global IT strategy, establishing infrastructure standards and security protocols that align with organizational goals.
  • Manage the complete hardware lifecycle for both Apple and Windows systems, overseeing everything from procurement to deployment and eventual retirement.
  • Supervise cloud services, identity management systems, single sign-on (SSO) solutions, and ensure robust network connectivity across all platforms.
  • Spearhead initiatives related to cybersecurity, including incident response planning and vulnerability assessment.
  • Serve as the main technical escalation point for complex issues, while also providing mentorship and guidance to IT staff.
  • Collaborate closely with executive leadership on budget planning, vendor management, and software licensing agreements.
  • Ensure the functionality and maintenance of studio and office technology, which includes audiovisual equipment, workstations, and production hardware.
  • Facilitate the onboarding and offboarding processes for new hires, ensuring a smooth transition in and out of the organization.
  • Work in partnership with the Office Manager to maintain an organized and efficient workspace that promotes productivity.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 8 to 10 years of progressive experience in IT, with a strong emphasis on leadership roles or ownership of specific functions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing Apple environments through tools such as Apple Business Manager and MDM solutions like Mosyle, Jamf, or Kandji.
  • Experience in overseeing Windows workstation environments, focusing on endpoint management and hardware strategies.
  • Comprehensive understanding of networking principles, including the management of firewalls, VPNs, and wireless infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft 365.
  • Proven track record in managing cybersecurity initiatives, vendor contracts, and technology procurement processes.
  • Willingness and ability to work on-site five days a week at the Toronto office.
  • Physical capability to lift, move, and install various office and production equipment as needed.
Nice to have
  • Experience in creative, digital production, or agency environments, which could enhance understanding of the unique IT needs in these settings.
  • Knowledge of IT governance and security frameworks that can help shape organizational policies.
  • Familiarity with production‑specific equipment, rendering infrastructure, or audiovisual setups that are critical to our operations.
  • Skills in scripting and automation using languages such as Python, Bash, or Power Shell to streamline processes.
  • Relevant industry certifications, including CISSP, AWS, Google Cloud, Cisco, or Jamf, which would add value to the role.
Skills & tools
  • Proficient in using Apple Business Manager, Mosyle, Jamf, and Kandji for device management.
  • Experienced in Windows Enterprise Management for effective workstation oversight.
  • Knowledgeable in cloud services, particularly AWS, GCP, and Microsoft 365, to support our infrastructure.
  • Strong networking skills, covering wired and wireless setups, VPN configurations, and firewall management.
  • Expertise in identity management systems and single sign‑on (SSO) solutions.
  • Familiar with audiovisual and studio hardware to ensure operational efficiency.
