The Role

Contributes to the overall success of the Global Payments Technology in Canada and globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

What You’ll Do
  • Facilitate Scrum ceremonies including daily stand‑ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Coach and mentor the development team and stakeholders on Agile principles and Scrum practices to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Remove impediments and blockers that hinder the team’s progress, ensuring smooth delivery of sprint goals.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners to maintain a well‑groomed backlog and ensure clarity of user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Track and report team performance metrics (e.g., velocity, burndown charts) to provide transparency and support data‑driven decisions.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Ensure adherence to Agile best practices and help the team adapt processes to optimize delivery.
  • Facilitate communication between the development team, stakeholders, and other teams to ensure alignment and resolve dependencies.
  • Support release planning and coordinate with other Scrum Masters for cross‑team initiatives.
  • Advocate for quality and predictability by encouraging test automation, definition of done compliance, and technical excellence.
  • Champion CI/CD best practices and improve reliability monitoring.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day‑to‑day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day‑to‑day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Champions a high‑performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
What You'll Bring
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience:

    3+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or in an Agile delivery role. Proven track record of facilitating Scrum ceremonies and coaching teams on Agile principles.
  • Certifications:

    Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM) required. Additional Agile certifications (e.g., SAFe, PMI‑ACP) are a plus.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    Familiarity with Agile tools such as Jira, Azure Dev Ops, or Rally. Understanding of software development lifecycle and Dev Ops practices.
  • Soft Skills:

    Strong facilitation, communication, and conflict‑resolution skills. Ability to influence without authority and foster a collaborative team environment.
Nice‑to‑Have
  • Spanish speaking.
  • Experience working in scaled Agile environments (SAFe, LeSS).
  • Knowledge of test automation and CI/CD practices.
