Head of Underwriting

The Head of Underwriting will lead a growing team of specialist underwriters as Linx enters its next phase of development. This role is pivotal in driving profitable growth, maintaining high levels of colleague engagement, and deepening the team’s underwriting expertise. The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting strategy, portfolio management, and relationship development with brokers and capital partners, ensuring alignment with Linx’s strategic goals.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada. This role is not eligible for sponsorship, and we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa or work permit.

What the day will look like Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and embed a culture of underwriting excellence and compliance with agreed guidelines across Linx.
  • Align individual business plans with Linx’s overarching strategic objectives.
  • Lead the formulation and execution of underwriting policies and risk selection criteria.
Portfolio & Performance Management
  • Oversee financial performance of underwriting portfolios, including sign-off on remedial plans.
  • Monitor and report on underwriting results, ensuring profitability and sustainable growth.
Relationship Management
  • Manage and strengthen relationships with insurance and capital partners, including reporting and strategic alignment.
  • Act as a key liaison with brokers to ensure market responsiveness and client satisfaction.
Team Development & Engagement
  • Foster an inclusive and open team environment to maintain Linx’s colleague engagement score of 80% or higher.
  • Mentor and develop underwriters, promoting continuous learning and professional growth.
Compliance & Controls
  • Ensure robust underwriting controls and adherence to regulatory and internal standards.
  • Participate in audits and quality assurance initiatives to uphold underwriting integrity.

Skills and experience that will lead to success
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in senior leadership within insurance or MGA environments
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing underwriting strategies and managing diverse portfolios
  • University degree or college diploma in a relevant discipline
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation or equivalent qualification
  • Proven ability to lead high‑performing teams and foster a culture of excellence and compliance
