OverviewZurich Canada is looking for a Claims Recovery Specialist. Reporting to the Investigative and Recovery Services Manager, you will evaluate legal liability and pursue, negotiate and resolve subrogation collection by communicating with insureds, witnesses, legal representatives and underwriters to exchange the necessary information to effectively value and resolve cases within authority.

What you will do- Trace and identify the party that is to be pursued for recovery.
- Pursue resolution by investigating and evaluating legal liability and determining the case strategy as it relates to recovery opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with claims adjusters/vendors/customers to secure additional information.
- Obtain and provide necessary information to the case by communicating with customers, witnesses, legal experts and underwriters.
- Manage and direct vendor/supplier interaction on claim file.
- Value and resolve cases within authority.
- Bring file to resolution by participating/leading file negotiations, arbitrations and/or litigation.
- Adhere to local regulatory and governance requirements throughout the life of the claim.
- Properly recognize and escalate any matter where subrogation operates against another policyholder.
- Interact effectively with claimants, principals, agents, witnesses and attorneys to complete investigations and collect assets due the company; interact with regulatory bureaus as needed.
- Recognize and respond to business opportunities by finding and implementing new resources and evaluating collection practices for ways to increase efficiencies.
- Review bonds, accounting records, invoices and other required material during the investigation and recovery effort and notify appropriate parties of outstanding issues as needed.
- Prepare reports outlining investigation findings, analyze cases and recommend appropriate course of action.
- Recommend and/or implement collection process improvements while remaining focused on goals.
- Monitor and control expenses incurred on claims and salvage cases.
What you bring to the table
- Bachelor’s Degree and no prior experience required in the Insurance Industry area
- OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in the Insurance Industry area
- OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and no prior experience required in the Insurance Industry area
- Experience working on claims in line of business
- Claims handling experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
At Zurich Canada, we are committed to pay equity. We determine compensation based on objective criteria such as skills, experience, and internal equity. The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000. This range reflects the expected pay for the role across Canada and may vary depending on factors like office location, specific responsibilities, and individual qualifications. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable compensation range, but starting salaries may exceed this range based on a candidate’s skills and experience.
