Position: Underwriter, Accident & Health - 12-Month Contract

Zurich Canada is currently looking for an Underwriter, Accident & Health for a 12-month contract to analyze and underwrite new and renewal business, regularly interacting with brokers and customers and delivering excellent service.

Reporting to the AVP, Accident & Health, you will underwrite and analyze moderate complexity accounts, maintain distributor and customer relationships, and support our growth and retention objectives, while continuously developing your expertise in the market.

What you will do

  • Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated authority, focusing on accounts of moderate complexity.
  • Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, rating manuals, and insurance laws and regulations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with brokers, agents, and customers to support retention, acquisition, and provide solutions.
  • Participate in broker/customer visits, marketing presentations, and sales meetings.
  • Qualify, quote, set coverage, and negotiate terms and conditions for new and renewal accounts.
  • Promote Zurich’s products and cross-sell lines of business.
  • Support the organization's sales culture as a Help Point for agents, brokers, and customers.
  • Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
  • Proactively manage opportunities, update client and account status, and serve as key contact for assigned accounts.
  • Provide technical expertise for defined projects and resolve operational and technical issues as needed.
  • Monitor underwriting processes and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legal and regulatory controls that govern work practices.
  • Business travel and extended hours during peak periods, as required.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and regular predictable attendance.
  • Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table

    Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND 1 or more years of experience in the Insurance or Market Facing area.
  • Experience in Finance, Banking or Risk Management.
  • OR

  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND 2 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support.
  • AND

  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment.
  • Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 1 or more years of experience in underwriting.
  • Financial knowledge and skills.
  • Strong negotiation, relationship building, and presentation skills.
  • Service orientation, active listening, and a solutions focus.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are proficient in both English and French.

The salary range for this position is $70,000 – $85,000.
