Zurich Canada is currently looking for an Underwriting Manager to manage an underwriting team and provide guidance with appropriate underwriting decisions within the Middle Market, Management Liability segment for the Central Region.

Reporting to the VP, National Leader PNP & Western Region - Financial Lines, you will lead and develop a team of underwriters utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels ensuring a high level service to customers.

Zurich follows a hybrid work model requiring three days per week of in-person presence, which may include time in the office or market-facing engagements.

What you will do

• Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities for publicly traded, privately incorporated and non-profit clients

• Proactively engages and communicates portfolio strategies and KPIs with key internal stakeholders.

• Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.

• Qualify accounts to meet with the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.

• Make agent/broker/customer and on-sight calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.

• Negotiate Terms & Conditions and close deals.

• Cross-Sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account.

• Participate in Sales Team meetings as related to assigned brokers and / or territory.

• Proactively engage in the target account process, managing a qualified list of opportunities 90 to 120 days prior to effective date.

• Serve as key contact for assigned target accounts.

• Provide continuous coaching on sales best practices.

• Develop strong broker and client networks as related to industries underwritten by Business Unit.

• Monitor Sales Funnel and Production Metrics of team.

• Calculate Target Price accurately by utilizing underwriting tools appropriately.

• Monitor and identify market trends and coverage exposure developments.

• Maintain current distributor and key customer relationships as well as the development of new relationships.

• Build productive internal relationships with support service partners.

• Responsible for the evaluation, professional development, training and coaching of underwriters.

• Convey knowledge to staff to aid in making appropriate underwriting decisions.

Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table

Required:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
OR

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
OR

• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
OR

• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
AND

• Experience with Microsoft Office

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s Degree

• Minimum of 1 year previous supervisory or management experience

• Advanced knowledge in underwriting management liability and crime

• Ability to manage and build rapport with team

• Excellent organizational, written, oral communication and presentation skills

• Advanced knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory guidelines

• Established producer relationships

• Advanced skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating
