The Claims Team Leader – Casualty, Canada, is responsible for leading, guiding, and coordinating a team of casualty claims professionals handling Canadian and multinational casualty claims. The role focuses on operational delivery, technical claims guidance, and consistent claim handling practices across the claim’s lifecycle, including investigation, coverage analysis, reserving, litigation management, and resolution. The incumbent will help set team priorities, support service and compliance standards, contribute to process improvements, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve effective claims outcomes aligned with AXA XL’s global standards.

This position reports to the Claims Manager – Casualty, Canada.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Lead, guide, and coordinate a team of casualty claims professionals to deliver operational claims objectives and consistent claim handling across coverage analysis, investigation, evaluation, reserving, litigation management, and resolution.
  • Collaborate with underwriting teams on claim issues, policy interpretation, coverage considerations, and business development activities, providing technical claims insight where required.
  • Maintain high standards of service, compliance, quality, and timeliness for policyholders, brokers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with legal counsel to manage litigation, apply sound judgement within established guidelines and authority, and support cost‑effective claim resolution.
  • Coordinate communication with external and internal stakeholders, including reinsurers, vendors, legal teams, underwriting, and finance, to support effective and timely claim outcomes.
  • Identify and support opportunities for operational efficiencies, including technology, process enhancements, standards, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee vendor performance and expense management within the claim’s unit, ensuring alignment with service expectations, quality standards, and operational priorities.
  • Coach, mentor, and support team members by providing technical guidance, feedback, performance support, and development input.
