As a freelance interpreter with MCIS Language Solutions
, you will provide essential spoken interpretation services in various community settings, such as hospitals, police stations, tribunal hearings, schools, and more. Your primary role will be to facilitate clear and accurate communication between English and Somali speakers, ensuring individuals with limited language proficiency have access to vital services.

• Interpretation:
  Provide accurate, clear, and professional interpretation between English and Somali in community settings, including high-pressure environments such as healthcare and legal contexts.
• Cultural Sensitivity:
  Demonstrate cultural awareness to faithfully convey meaning and tone while respecting cultural nuances.
• Reading and Oral Translation:
  Read and orally translate written materials (e.g., forms, medical records, legal documents) as needed, translating short passages with precision.
• Facilitating Access to Services:
  Help vulnerable populations navigate healthcare, law enforcement, and social services to access necessary assistance.
• Travel:
  Travel to assignment locations as required; access to transportation and flexibility in location/time may be needed.
• Remote Assignments:
  Handle over-the-phone or video interpretation assignments when applicable.
• Professionalism and Confidentiality:
  Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in sensitive contexts.

• Fluency in English and Somali (written and spoken) is required.
• Reading Proficiency:
  Ability to read and translate written documents into clear oral translations.
• Soft Skills:
  
  Excellent interpersonal skills, empathy, patience, and a commitment to service.
• Transportation:
  Ability to travel to different locations; reliable transportation is necessary.
• Legal Eligibility:
  Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

• Training: MCIS provides a free online training module to prepare you for assignments; completion is required before starting work.
• Experienced Interpreters:
  Applications from experienced interpreters who are tested and certified in community interpreting are welcome.

• Job Type: Part-time, Casual, Freelance
• Salary: CA $20.00 to CA $25.00 per hour (based on experience and assignment type)
