Overview

Freelance Interpreter (English/Sinhala) at MCIS Language Solutions. This role provides essential spoken interpretation services in various community settings, facilitating clear and accurate communication between English and Sinhala speakers to ensure access to vital services.

CA $20.00/hr - CA $25.00/hr

• Interpretation:
  Provide accurate, clear, and professional interpretation between English and Sinhala in community settings, including high-pressure environments such as healthcare and legal contexts.
• Cultural Sensitivity:
  Demonstrate cultural awareness to faithfully convey meaning and tone while respecting cultural nuances.
• Reading and Oral Translation:
  Read and orally translate written materials (e.g., application forms, medical records, legal documents) as needed with precision.
• Facilitating Access to Services:
  Help vulnerable populations navigate complex systems in healthcare, law enforcement, and social services.
• Travel:
  Travel to assignment locations as required; accessibility via car, public transportation, or other means; assignments may vary in location and time.
• Remote Assignments:
  Handle over-the-phone or video interpretation assignments when applicable.
• Professionalism and Confidentiality:
  Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in interpreting sensitive information, particularly in healthcare and legal contexts.

• Fluency in English and Sinhala (written and spoken) is required.
• Reading Proficiency:
  Strong ability to read and interpret written documents and translate orally with clarity.
• Soft Skills:
  
  Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathy, patience, and a commitment to service; ability to build rapport across diverse cultures.
• Transportation:
  Ability to travel to different locations; reliable transportation is preferred.
• Legal Eligibility:
  Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

• Training: A free online training module is provided to prepare you for assignments and must be completed before starting work.
• Experienced Interpreters:
  Applications from experienced interpreters who are tested and certified in community interpreting are welcome.

Job Type: Part-time, Casual, Freelance

Salary: CA $20.00 to CA $25.00 per hour (based on experience and assignment type)
