Sojourn House provides Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing services to newly arrived refugees coming from all parts of the world. We provide a safe place and an inclusive environment to refugees. Aboutthe Role
You will be responsible for providing replacement shift coverage on an as needed basis and ensuring the efficient and qualitative internal and external cleanliness at any one of the three Sojourn House shelter facilities. The shelters provide emergency shelter to refugees in a work environment where all stakeholders observe an integrated anti-oppression, anti-racist, access and equity framework.
Responsibilities and Duties- Move furniture as may be required for cleaning, repairs or replacement purposes.
- Steam rooms for pest control in accordance with prevention protocols and schedule.
- Clean and sanitize all common areas and shelter washrooms.
- Empty garbage bins daily as per schedule.
- Perform seasonal outdoor maintenance duties, including snow removal, grass cutting, and debris collection.
- Clean office and amenity spaces, including appliances, as assigned.
- Polish and mop waxed floors.
- Operate and maintain all equipment used in the performance of duties, ensuring it remains in safe working order.
- Demonstrate knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including WHMIS and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as it relates to janitorial duties, cleaning products, and other chemicals. Follow safe work practices at all times and use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment as directed.
- Ensure established cleaning and sanitization quality standards are consistently maintained.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a commercial cleaning environment preferred.
- Community college and/or training in Custodial/Janitorial Services from a recognized institution is an asset.
- Current WHMIS Certificate required.
- Experience with the use of commercial cleaning equipment required.
- Standard First Aid & CPR Certificate
This position requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, including the movement of furniture, garbage bins, and maintenance equipment. Duties are performed throughout the building and exterior property and involve the use of commercial cleaning products and equipment.

7.5 hours per replacement shift
