Hydro One is proud to be the largest electricity transmission and distribution provider in Ontario, serving nearly 1.5 million customers. We have a long history in the industry with our roots dating back over 110 years to 1906. Since then, we have worked to grow and evolve to meet the changing needs of our customers and communities across Ontario. Today, we're focused on providing exceptional customer service and ensuring we are building safe communities where we live, work and play.

It's an exciting time to join the team at Hydro One!

Hydro One is seeking an experienced leader to oversee the delivery of environmental waste management services across Ontario. In this role, you will lead a team of approximately 8 professional staff and 20 field support staff responsible for managing waste for major capital transmission projects, programs, and Lines of Business (LOBs). You will ensure compliance with all Provincial and Federal regulations while building and maintaining a high-performance, collaborative team capable of delivering services on time and on budget within multi-disciplinary project teams.

Our Waste Management services include hydrovac operations, soil, water, and concrete disposal, oil and scrap metal recovery, spill response support, and PCB waste management. The team operates over 90 registered PCB and waste sites across the province and a central Waste Hub office in Lindsay, Ontario. Key responsibilities include overseeing site registrations with the MECP RPRA system, maintaining accurate documentation of service requests, and ensuring legal and company requirements for waste shipments, including lab analysis, permits, TDG compliance, and manifesting.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Environmental Services, you will provide leadership and specialist support to senior management and project teams, drive innovation in waste management practices, and represent Hydro One in stakeholder engagements, including Indigenous communities, regulatory bodies, and local stakeholders. This position requires travel across Ontario to support project development and construction phases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and mentor a team of unionized professionals to deliver waste management services province-wide.
  • Develop and implement waste management strategies for projects and programs, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and compliance monitoring.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental legislation, Hydro One policies, and best practices; maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes and industry trends.
  • Manage vendor contracts, budgets, and cost-control measures to optimize service delivery.
  • Provide expert guidance to internal teams and Lines of Business on waste classification, surplus material handling, and regulatory compliance.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, Indigenous communities, vendors, and the public, to support project objectives.
  • Represent Hydro One on internal and external committees and technical forums.
  • Drive continuous improvement, safety, and efficiency within waste management programs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Planning, Forestry, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in environmental/waste management or utility operations, including 3-5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of waste management regulations (Reg 347, Reg 406, RPRA, TDG, PCB) and industry best practices.
  • Proven leadership skills in a unionized environment; excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Experience in project management, contract administration, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Familiarity with environmental management systems, contaminant management, and remediation planning is an asset.
  • Occasional travel across the province with overnight stays is required.
  • Valid Drivers license is required.
