Job Summary
This position offers a pathway into plant operations. Employees who demonstrate strong performance, reliability, and initiative may be considered for progression into Plant Operator roles. Training will include exposure to process systems, equipment operation, troubleshooting, and safety practices within an advanced organics processing facility. The Junior Plant Operator supports daily plant operations through equipment operation, material handling, and general site support.
MainResponsibilities
- Assist Plant Operators with monitoring and operation of processing systems (pulpers, grit removal, digesters, dewatering)
- Support routine operational rounds and equipment checks
- Participate in basic troubleshooting and reporting of process or equipment issues
- Assist with sampling, inspections, and process data collection
- Gain exposure to SCADA systems and process monitoring tools
- Assist haulage drivers at the start of shift
- Use forklift to monitor and empty bins
- Assist on conveyor belt clean‑ups
- Perform janitorial duties throughout the plant
- Maintain a clean processing floor area
- Assist maintenance department as required
- Record daily instrument readings
- Assist machine operators and loader operators as required
- Clean work areas and equipment
- Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor
- Post‑secondary education or equivalent experience required
- 1 to 2 years of experience operating a counterbalance forklift in an industrial environment required; experience operating a telehandler is a strong asset
- Valid forklift certification (counterbalance and/or telehandler) is an asset
- 1 to 2 years of experience as a general laborer in a heavy industrial environment
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn process systems
- Experience with a variety of machinery, vehicles, material handling equipment, and hand and power tools preferred
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to understand and follow operational, process, safety, and quality instructions
- Strong interest in developing a career in industrial, wastewater, or organics processing operations
- Basic math and numeracy skills required
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment and willingness to take on additional responsibilities
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to take on increasing responsibility
- Valid driver’s license with a clean and safe driving record
- Reliable and punctual; start and finish times directly impact overall operations
- Ability to rotate throughout various areas of the facility as operationally required
Permanent, full‑time employment offered. Working hours are Monday to Friday.
Shifts:
Monday‑Sunday, 5:00AM–2:30PM & 2:00PM–11:30PM, overtime, alternating shifts with two days off before rotation.
Fast‑paced environment; repetitive tasks; physically demanding; attention to detail required. Work may become dusty with a recycling odor.
Own transportation required.
Salary$20 to $25 per hour.
