Job Summary

The Additive Manufacturing Technologist is a hands‑on technical role supporting Designfusion’s additive manufacturing workflow from digital file preparation through finished part delivery.

This role includes a mix of 3D nesting, build preparation, DFAM support, 3D print production, post‑processing, quality control, and customer project support. The successful candidate will use industrial 3D printing systems and software tools, including Materialise , to prepare customer parts for production, optimize build layouts, review files for printability, and help produce high-quality 3D printed parts.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is mechanically inclined, technically curious, dependable, and interested in building real expertise in additive manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

3D Nesting and Build Preparation

Use Materialise and related additive manufacturing software to prepare customer files for production. This includes orienting parts, nesting parts in 3D build volumes, reviewing build density, organizing jobs, and optimizing layouts for quality, cost, throughput, and repeatability.

DFAM and Printability Review

Review customer part files for additive manufacturing suitability. Identify potential issues related to wall thickness, part orientation, tolerances, feature size, surface quality, escape holes, part strength, and post‑processing requirements.

Customer File Preparation

Prepare, repair, and organize 3D files for printing. Support file review, part grouping, naming conventions, build organization, and documentation so jobs move smoothly from order stage into production.

3D Printing Production Support

Operate and support 3D printers in Designfusion’s production environment, including preparing jobs, monitoring prints, handling completed parts, and helping ensure customer projects are completed accurately and on time.

Post‑Processing and Part Finishing

Handle 3D printed parts and operate post‑processing equipment. This may include cleaning, depowdering, support removal, finishing, dyeing, inspection, sorting, packaging, and other hands‑on production tasks.

Machine Setup, Testing, and Maintenance

Assist with testing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting 3D printers and related equipment. Develop a practical understanding of machine operation, material handling, and common technical issues.

Quality Control and Drawing Review

Read basic engineering drawings, review customer requirements, and perform simple quality control checks using appropriate tools and procedures.

Customer Project Support

Work with Designfusion’s design, production, and sales teams to support customer 3D printing projects. Communicate clearly around job status, technical concerns, production feasibility, part quality, and delivery requirements.

Workflow Improvement

Help improve production workflows, build preparation standards, nesting practices, documentation, equipment readiness, and repeatability. Contribute to a clean, safe, organized, and efficient additive manufacturing workspace.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Previous exposure to 3D printing, additive manufacturing, mechanical design, manufacturing, machining, fabrication, model making, or a related hands‑on technical field.
  • Experience with 3D printing software, build preparation software, slicing tools, CAD software, or 3D file repair tools is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Materialise software is an asset.
  • Ability to review 3D files and identify basic printability, geometry, orientation, and manufacturing concerns.
  • Ability to read basic engineering drawings and understand simple dimensional…
