Role Description The Shop Drawing Specialist is a full-time, hybrid role based in Etobicoke, ON, with a mix of on-site work and some work-from-home flexibility. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed shop drawings for fiberglass window and door systems based on architectural and structural plans, specifications, and project requirements. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting contract documents, coordinating with project managers, engineers, and production teams, and revising drawings in response to design changes and client feedback.
The Shop Drawing Specialist reviews drawings for compliance with company standards and building codes, maintains organized drawing records, and supports the manufacturing team with clear, build-ready documentation. The role also involves communicating regularly with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical questions and ensure timely delivery of drawing packages.
Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to create and modify shop drawings using CAD or similar drafting software, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Solid understanding of construction documents, architectural and structural drawings, and building envelope systems, preferably in windows and doors or related fenestration products.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret specifications, identify discrepancies, and propose practical solutions for design and production.
Effective communication and collaboration skills to work closely with project managers, engineers, production staff, and clients in a team-based environment.
Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain clear documentation and version control.
Post-secondary education in architectural technology, engineering technology, drafting, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
Experience in a manufacturing or construction environment is an asset, particularly with fenestration or building envelope products.
Familiarity with relevant building codes, industry standards, and safety practices applicable to window and door systems is beneficial.
