Applicants from Calgary will also be considered. Reporting to the Manager, Communications & Market Recognition, you will serve as the Firm’s subject‑matter expert on market recognition strategy. You will lead the program end‑to‑end, setting strategy, managing relationships with ranking organizations, coaching lawyers, analyzing results and driving continuous improvement. The Business Development team supports execution of individual submissions. This role does not require the Lead to write the submissions.
Part of your time will be spent contributing to broader brand, digital marketing and communications initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Market Recognition Strategy & Execution
Lead the planning, coordination and execution of the Firm’s annual submissions calendar across major directories and awards programs (e.g. Chambers, Legal 500, Best Lawyers, IFLR
1000, Benchmark Litigation, etc.).
Develop and recommend submissions strategies, including identifying priority opportunities, assessing competitiveness and advising on positioning, in consultation with the Manager and Director, Firm Marketing and Communications.
Act as the Firm’s primary contact for ranking organizations, editors and researchers, building relationships that advance our recognition goals.
Provide strategic guidance and coach lawyers and practice group leaders on rankings interviews, researcher interactions and the submissions process.
Coordinate internal workflows for gathering matter details, referee lists and practice data across business development, practice management and lawyer teams.
Monitor results, conduct competitive analysis and report to firm leadership with strategic recommendations.
Manage the annual market recognition budget with guidance from the Manager and Director.
Partner with Marketing Technology to identify AI, automation and technology‑driven efficiencies in submissions workflows — a key strategic priority for the function.
Stay current on methodology changes, industry trends and best practices through active engagement with relevant networks and organizations.
Cross‑Functional Marketing & Communications Projects
Contribute to or lead marketing, brand, digital and communications projects on a cross‑functional basis.
Develop promotional content (i.e. social media posts, website articles and internal communications) to amplify rankings results and award wins.
Work with the Business Intelligence team to generate insights that inform recognition strategy and competitive positioning.
Supervision & Mentorship
Supervise and mentor co‑op students, including delegating work, providing feedback and supporting their professional development.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or a related field is required.
Minimum of seven years of relevant experience including direct experience with awards, rankings and directory submissions programs.
Experience in a law firm or professional services environment is preferred.
Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of major legal or professional services ranking methodologies and the competitive landscape.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English with the ability to distil complex practice information into compelling, persuasive narratives.
Proven project management skills and the ability to manage a high volume of concurrent deadlines across multiple programs.
A track record of building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, including partners and firm leadership, and navigating politically sensitive situations with discretion and sound judgement.
Highly organized and detail‑oriented, with strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data and results into strategic insights.
Familiarity with AI tools and a genuine interest in leveraging technology to improve processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Compensation
The anticipated annual salary for the Lead, Market Recognition & Projects position is $90,000 - $115,000. Salary levels will be determined commensurate with internal equity, market equity and experience.
