Join CNIB to make a lasting impact through braille literacy as a dedicated volunteer. Help transcribe essential information for the visually impaired community.
Become a part of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind's mission by volunteering to transcribe print materials into braille. This enriching role involves an intensive 8-month transcription course at no cost, which requires a strong time commitment and an eagerness to learn. Classes occur on Tuesdays, providing an option to attend virtually if needed due to weather.
Key Responsibilities:
• Participate in hands-on braille transcription training
• Fulfill homework assignments to master the skill
• Schedule regular volunteer shifts at the Braille Room
• Work collaboratively with CNIB staff and volunteers
• Drive efforts toward enhancing accessibility for the visually impaired
Requirements:
• Proficient English skills and a love for reading
• Familiarity with computers, printers, and email
• Availability to maintain a three-year volunteer commitment
• Self-driven with strong organizational skills
• Passionate about improving community literacy
