About the Multispecialty Surgical Unit
Located on North at Mount Sinai Hospital, the Multispecialty Surgical Unit is a
-bed unit that provides care for patients across surgical specialties, including reconstructive orthopaedics, oral-maxillofacial surgery (OMFS), ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery, urological/oncological gynecology, and ophthalmology. Our unit is characterized by a high volume of surgical patient turnover, with length of stay ranging from 1-2 days to over a week for more complex cases. In addition, we provide care for patients from general internal medicine, general surgery, and gastroenterology.
We have a dedicated Charge Nurse with typical patient ratios of 1:4 on day shifts and 1:6 on night shifts. Our cohesive team is dedicated to fostering a collaborative environment that prioritizes patient-centered care and continuous learning.
In this role you will:
Provide direct patient and family centered care for patients across surgical specialties, including reconstructive orthopaedics, oral-maxillofacial surgery (OMFS), ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery, urological/oncological gynecology, and ophthalmologyComplete physical assessments on patientsProvide direct patient care in accordance to the CNO standards and Sinai Health's policy and proceduresAdminister medications and provide any necessary care (including, but not limited to wound care, IVs, monitoring drains, prepare patients for procedures, etc.)Attend nursing rounds and participate in patient/family meetingsCollaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, pharmacists, social workers, clinical nurse specialists, etc.Apply a broad range of nursing skills and procedures including (but not exclusive to) CADD pumps, chest tubes, nephrostomy tubes, complex wounds, central lines, enteral feeding tubes, TPN, CIWA monitoring, managing a Code Blues, and chemotherapyParticipate in the mentoring of learners, peers and other regulated and unregulated health professionalsPerform other duties consistent with the job classification as requiredJob Requirements
Job Requirements:
Mandatory
Currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)Graduate of a CNO-approved Practical Nursing (PN) program. Equivalent combined education and experience will be consideredCurrent certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)Preferred
2 years of recent acute care clinical experienceSkills and Knowledge
