Registered Nurse - Mood & Anxiety Ambulatory Service (Access to Care)

Through its core values of Courage, Respect and Excellence, CAMH is implementing its Strategic Plan:
Connected CAMH, to transform lives, ignite innovation and discovery, revolutionize education and drive social change. CAMH is more than a hospital, it is a cause. CAMH is on a mission to change the way society thinks about and responds to mental illness. They aim to eliminate prejudice and discrimination and shape a world where mental illness is central to our healthcare system – a world where Mental Health is Health.

The Mood & Anxiety Ambulatory Service (MAAS) is seeking a permanent, full‑time Registered Nurse (RN) to join a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary outpatient mental health team. MAAS provides specialized, evidence‑based assessment and treatment for individuals experiencing mood and anxiety disorders, trauma‑related conditions, and concurrent mental health and substance use concerns.

This role is embedded within a team‑based model of care, where collaboration, shared clinical decision‑making, and mutual support are central to service delivery. The RN will work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, and other clinicians to deliver coordinated, client‑centred care.

One focus of this role is the provision of psychotherapy through individual and group modalities. The RN will deliver evidence‑based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and other structured psychotherapeutic approaches, in accordance with scope of practice and authorization. Applicants must have formal education and/or training in psychotherapy or demonstrate a strong interest and commitment to developing the competencies required to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy.

In addition to psychotherapy, the RN will provide clinical nursing care as required, including mental status and physical health assessments, medication monitoring, injections, vital signs, behavioural observations, crisis intervention, and risk assessment and safety planning. The RN will contribute to treatment planning, care coordination, and ongoing evaluation of client progress.

The role also offers opportunities to support learners, participate in quality improvement and program development initiatives, and engage in teaching and research activities aligned with CAMH’s academic mission. Services are delivered at the Queen Street site and may include both in‑person and virtual care.

The successful candidate will be a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is required, with a minimum of three years of post‑graduate clinical experience in mental health and/or addictions preferred. Experience working with individuals with mood and anxiety disorders, trauma‑related conditions, PTSD, and concurrent disorders is required. Candidates must have education and/or training in psychotherapy (e.g., CBT, DBT, ACT) or demonstrate a strong interest and commitment to developing psychotherapy competencies.

Being authorized or actively working toward authorization to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy would be an asset. Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing through the Canadian Nurses Association is considered an asset, and current CPR (BCLS) certification is required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong skills in crisis intervention, recovery‑oriented practice, and complex case coordination, along with excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and teamwork skills.

The ability to work effectively within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team, experience working with diverse populations, and a commitment to equity‑informed, client‑centred care are essential. Bilingualism in French and English or proficiency in an additional language is considered an asset. For candidates who require clinical supervision to practice psychotherapy independently, CAMH may arrange a formal supervisory relationship within the program, subject to capacity, as a condition of hire.
