Position Summary
The Operating Room at Toronto General Hospital comprises 21 operating theatres, a multi‑purpose OR, a translational research image‑guided OR, and an organ regenerative laboratory. Services include cardiovascular, thoracic, general surgery, gynecologic oncology, urology, head and neck, plastics, robotic, ER program, VAD program, minimally invasive surgery, and living related donor program. The majority of patients are adults requiring inpatient or outpatient surgery with complex conditions such as transplantation, cardiovascular and surgical oncology.
CompensationWage Range: $41.15 – 58.98 per hour (start rate non‑negotiable, collective agreement).
Duties- Applying knowledge of nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision making in the provision of compassionate, cooperative and competent care in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice Model and nursing mission and vision.
- Ensuring practice is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and UHN policy and procedure.
- Demonstrating commitment to lifelong learning by participating in continuing education activities to meet patient needs and professional standards.
- Performing reflective practice, analyzing and evaluating nursing knowledge and modifying practice accordingly to improve quality of nursing and patient care.
- Performing cross‑functional and other responsibilities, as assigned and/or requested.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Completion of a recognized Operating Room (Perioperative) course.
- Current Operating Room experience 2–4 years.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
- Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi‑task.
- Excellent decision‑making and problem‑solving skills.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification.
- B.Sc.N. preferred.
