Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Clin Surge Research Phase 1 Unit is responsible for the safe and ethical care of healthy volunteers and/or patients participating in early-phase clinical trials. This role involves close monitoring, precise protocol execution, and collaboration with multidisciplinary research teams to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and study requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Administer investigational products (IP) in accordance with study protocols
- Perform clinical assessments, including vital signs, ECGs, and physical observations
- Monitor participants for adverse events and report findings promptly
- Collect and process biological samples (e.g., blood, urine) per protocol
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation (source documents, CRFs, EMR)
- Ensure adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) , regulatory guidelines, and site SOPs
- Educate study participants on procedures, risks, and expectations
- Collaborate with physicians, coordinators, and lab personnel
- Assist in study start-up, execution, and close-out activities
- Maintain infection control and safety standards
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ontario
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Minimum 1–2 years of clinical nursing experience (critical care or acute care preferred)
- Experience in clinical research or Phase 1 trials is an asset
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex protocols
- Excellent assessment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to recognize and respond to medical emergencies
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Comfort working in a fast‑paced, highly regulated environment
- May require rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- High level of patient monitoring and protocol‑driven care
- Perform venipuncture and clinical procedures - handling IV is an asset
- Lift/move equipment or assist patients as needed
