The Operating Room at TGH is comprised of 21 operating theatres as well as the Multi Purpose OR (MPOR), a Translational Research Image Guided OR (TRIGOR) and Organ Regenerative Laboratory (ORL) and encompasses a wide variety of surgical services including Cardiovascular, Thoracic, General Surgery, Gyne Oncology, Urology, Head and Neck and Plastics. There is also a robotic program in some of the specialties.
Priority programs include Cardiovascular, Surgical Oncology and Transplantation. An ECHMO program supports patients with ARLS and a VAD program;
Minimally Invasive Surgery and Living Related Donor program.
Every operating room is equipped with a computer where nurses can retrieve web‑based resources and document their perioperative nursing care. The majority of patients are adults requiring surgery on the inpatient or outpatient basis. Many of our patients are highly acute and have complex conditions (transplant, cardiovascular and surgical oncology).

Duties- Contributing to the patient assessment process
- Implementing patient care plan that includes performing and/or providing assistance that includes a limited range of strategies and interventions, collaborating with other members of the multi‑disciplinary health care team
- Acting as patient advocate
- Contributing to the smooth functioning of the department
- Attending seminars and workshops to facilitate personal and professional growth
- Performs the duties of the scrub nurse consistent with the job description as assigned
- Performing other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned
- Completion of college, or other approved Registered Practical Nursing program
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
- Completion of a recognized Operating Room (Perioperative) course required
- Current Operating Room experience 2–4 years required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time‑management skills
- Excellent problem‑solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member
- Demonstrated good manual dexterity
- Ability to work under pressure
