The Nurse Practitioner for the Asthma Care Program will promote excellence in family‑centred nursing care through the five main role components of expert practice, education, consultation, research and leadership. The successful candidate will be expected to stay up-to-date on the most recent, evidence-based asthma practices and will be a change agent within the asthma care team.
Here’s What You’ll Get To Do- Integrate nursing and medical skills and knowledge as well as clinical research into practice while caring for patients in the severe asthma and CAE/NP clinics.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff within the Asthma Care Program to ensure the provision of comprehensive care for our patients.
- Complete necessary follow up for severe asthma patients which includes responding to calls and emails from patients and their families as well as arranging assessments for patients in exacerbation on an ad hoc basis.
- Maintain good working relationships with asthma community partners and participate in and contribute to collaborative and networking events such as the Asthma Community Partner Workshop.
- Arrange external follow up for patients transitioning to the community for their asthma care.
- Participation in the Asthma Care Program’s research initiatives, including active involvement in performing research assessments, reviewing and reporting on research pulmonary function tests, and corresponding with patients and their families regarding research participation.
- Master of Nursing or equivalent with a clinical focus
- Completion of Nurse Practitioner program or equivalent
- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario within the RN (Extended Class)
- Knowledge of CTS Respiratory Guidelines for Asthma
- 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience in paediatrics
- Ability to act as a change agent and foster teamwork and consensus, demonstrated excellence in interpersonal relationships
- Innovative critical thinking skills with excellent communication, public speaking and problem‑solving skills
- Knowledge of theoretical frameworks and research application is also necessary.
- Experience in clinical research would be an asset.
- Previous experience in a leadership role would be an asset
