About this unit:
Located at Mount Sinai Hospital, this is a
-bed unit providing comprehensive care for orthopedic oncology and trauma patients. The orthopaedic oncology population consists of patients diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called sarcoma. This is the largest multi-disciplinary program of its type in Canada. This program is unique because patients are able to receive all of their cancer care needs on one unit - from diagnosis, staging, to treatment, to cure or palliative care when required.
Six beds are allocated to the inpatient administration of chemotherapy to our sarcoma population. Patients are cared for by expert oncology nurses and the allied healthcare team throughout the trajectory of their hospitalization.
The orthopedic trauma population consists of patients who have suffered a fracture. These patients undergo the necessary surgical treatment for their fractures and receive professional and individualized care from the interdisciplinary team throughout their recovery.
In this role you will:
Provide direct patient and family centered care for Orthopaedic Oncology patientsComplete physical assessments on patientsProvide direct patient care in accordance to the CNO standards and Sinai Health's policy and proceduresAdminister medications and provide any necessary care (including, but not limited to wound care, IVs, monitoring drains, prepare patients for procedures, etc.)Attend nursing rounds and participate in patient/family meetingsCollaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, pharmacists, social workers, clinical nurse specialists, etc.Apply a broad range of nursing skills and procedures including (but not exclusive to) CADD pumps, chest tubes, nephrostomy tubes, complex wounds, central lines, enteral feeding tubes, TPN, CIWA monitoring, managing a Code Blues, and chemotherapyParticipate in the mentoring of learners, peers and other regulated and unregulated health professionalsPerform other duties consistent with the job classification as requiredJob Requirements
Job Requirements:
Mandatory
Currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)Graduate of a CNO-approved Practical Nursing (PN) program. Equivalent combined education and experience will be consideredCurrent certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)Preferred
2 years of experience in clinical acute careSkills and Knowledge
