Position Summary

As a member of a multi‑disciplinary team, the Registered Nurse practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, the UHN Professional Practice Model and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN to provide compassionate, collaborative and competent care, while meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession.

The 38 bed Medical/Surgical/Neuro Intensive Care Unit is a regional centre for neurosurgical and spinal cord injured patients and provides nurses with a wide variety of professional challenges. Care is provided through an interprofessional model where all patients are seen by a group of varied health care providers daily. The acuity and breadth of exposure to our diverse patient population makes it a rich learning environment for students and trainees from all professions – physicians, nurses, pharmacy, respiratory therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, registered dieticians, social workers and spiritual care.

Duties
  • Applying knowledge of nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision making in the provision of compassionate, collaborative and competent care in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice Model for Nursing and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN.
  • Ensuring practice is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the UHN policy and procedure.
  • Demonstrating commitment to professional life‑long learning by participating in continuing education activities to meet the needs of the patient population served and the standards of the profession.
  • Performing reflective practice, analyzing and evaluating nursing knowledge and modifying practice accordingly to improve the quality of nursing and patient care.
  • Performing cross‑functional and other responsibilities, as assigned and/or requested.
Qualifications
  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Accredited Critical Care course completion required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification preferred
  • BScN degree preferred
  • Acute Care Experience preferred
  • Neurosurgery & Spinal experience preferred
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification required
