Registered Nurse- Temporary Part-time, Evening; North York

RESIDENT CARE

• Provides for nursing care in accordance with policy/regulations, physician’s orders, resident plan of care, and within the scope of practice of a RN;
• Ensures delivery of excellent nursing and personal care, with a focus on resident first philosophy;
• Ensures the supply, control and safe keeping of drugs and narcotics, ensures protocols are followed on all assigned shifts, and that all medication is accurately recorded and stored;
• Ensures all medication errors are reported to the Resident Home Area Manager and Pharmacy in a timely manner, participating in all associated investigations;
• Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care to meet the physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, cultural and social needs of the residents, ensuring all suggestions and findings are communicated to the interdisciplinary team;
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team including physicians and external medical specialists, to support residents and provide effective clinical care;
• Other duties as assigned.

• Responsible for safekeeping of drug and narcotic keys in accordance with skilled standards;
• Responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records of nursing care delivered;
• Demonstrates a professional working knowledge of all equipment used in the delivery of nursing care;
• Follows all policies and procedures; contributes to the development of nursing policies as requested;
• Responds to all emergencies immediately; acts as the incident manager until relieved by a manager or emergency services;
• Participates in education and in‑services for nursing team members and other subjects as required;

• Liaises with the Admission Coordinator pre‑admission and welcomes new residents (and their family members) to HMLTC, and ensures admission assessments and information is provided in a timely manner;
• Participates in care conferences with the interdisciplinary team, resident and family;
• Participates in Nursing Practice meetings on a regular basis and contributes to discussion and planning;
• Contributes to positive customer service with residents and families in day to day work;
• Conducts ongoing communication with families to inform them of changes in resident health status;
• Responds to resident and family concerns and reports to DOC or designate in a timely manner;
• Acts as a role model for nursing team members performing within the professional guidelines of College of Nurses, ensuring professional and respectful interactions with all stakeholders and interdisciplinary team members;
