University Health Network (UHN) is looking for an experienced professional to fill the role of Nurse Practitioner in the Krembil Brain Institute (KBI) at Toronto Western Hospital. Working primarily in inpatient neurosurgical/spine units, the NP performs an expanded nursing role with high autonomy and expert skill, formulating clinical decisions and managing patients in the spine surgery group and broader neurosciences program.
The NP also leads initiatives to improve patient care and supports nursing staff development.
- Collect and interpret data about patient health.
- Determine medical diagnoses and address complex responses of patients and families.
- Play a leadership role and perform quality improvement and administrative responsibilities.
- Participate in policy and procedure development; conduct research activities.
- Deliver, coordinate and participate in education and professional development activities and programs.
- Perform activities to further develop and strengthen the profession.
- Act as a resource and consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community and other hospital agencies.
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing – Nurse Practitioner (NP) Adult or Primary Care stream.
- Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Three to five years nursing experience in an acute treatment centre with neurosurgery, spine, oncology, neuro‑interventional or neurology patient populations; familiarity with spinal and neurosurgical conditions preferred.
- Canadian Nurses Association certification in Neuroscience Nursing an asset.
- Experience in nursing research methodology.
- Eligible for or already holding cross‑appointment to an academic institution.
- Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) and other relevant organizations an asset.

- Excellent organization and time‑management skills.
- Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
