Psychiatric Emergency Services Nurse

This role is pivotal at Sunnybrook’s Emergency Department, where the PES Nurse works closely with colleagues to support patients experiencing severe psychiatric and psychosocial challenges. You will assess individuals, collaborate with psychiatrists in the Discharge and Transition Team, and conduct follow-up counseling, effectively bridging inpatient care to the community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide immediate assessments for psychiatric emergencies

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for patient care

• Conduct mental status assessments and gather collateral information

• Facilitate referrals to outpatient and community resources

• Support inpatient care on the mental health unit

Requirements:

• Current Ontario nursing registration

• Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, Masters preferred

• Minimum three years in crisis intervention

• Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification

• Knowledge of psychotropic drugs and best practices
