Position: Registered Practical Nurse - Same Day Surgery - Casual 2025-15854
Summary of Duties   We are seeking an experienced RPN with current surgical experience, including pre-operative and post-operative assessment, and discharge experience.
The individual must have strong clinical assessment skills and organizational abilities to provide a high level of patient care in the immediate pre-operative and post-operative phase.
The primary responsibility of the RPN includes physical and psychological assessment, instruction and preparation of patients undergoing a variety of surgeries.
The RPN should have an ability to adapt to a fast-changing and stressful environment.
And be able to provide physical assistance with patient mobilization, transfers and ambulation.
The RPN will be responsible for providing post-operative health teaching on recovery and pain management. The Same Day RPN must support the philosophy of Person-Centred Care and the Mission Vision and Values of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The RPN works closely with the RN and other
Qualifications/Skills   Current Ontario College of Nurses Registration
Diploma in RPN mandatory
Current BCLS certification required
Minimum 1-2 years recent surgical experience required
Successful completion of Physical Assessment course
Venipuncture IV certification and phlebotomy skills required
Successful completion of Medication Administration course
Excellent critical thinking, problem solving and ability to prioritize in a stressful environment required
Excellent computer skills required
In-depth knowledge of the effects of General and Regional Anaesthetics
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent time management and organization skills
Proven ability to promote Client Centered Care in a clinic environment
