Registered Practical Nurse - GAU

Position Overview

The Geriatric Mental Health Program is currently seeking a full‑time, temporary (until July 16, 2027) Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to work in the Geriatric Admission Unit

A. Reporting to the GAU‑A Manager and working within the inter‑professional team, you will provide client‑centred psychiatric and general nursing care to older individuals with mental health and addiction issues. You will ensure the security, the safety and the College of Nurses of Ontario standards of nursing practice are maintained.

• Collaborate with the primary nurse to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate interdisciplinary plans of client care for clients with mental health and addiction issues.
• Work with patients from diverse backgrounds and contribute to program development.
• Provide education support and supervision to students.
• Perform behavioural observations, mental status assessments and monitor patient responses to pharmaceutical and care interventions.
• Document clinical information and maintain ongoing communication with other team members.
• Work 12‑hour shift rotations, including weekend work.
• Position is located at the Queen Street site.

• Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR).
• Medication administration certification.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop a Nurse‑Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter‑professional team.
• Strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, especially care of older persons with mental health and/or addiction issues.
• Ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring management of disturbed behaviour.
• Experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions (asset).
• Self‑directed, highly organized team player with the ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
• Experience working with individuals from diverse ethno‑cultural and socio‑economic backgrounds.
• Computer literacy.
• Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language (asset).

Salary Range: $32.42–$38.33 per hour
