Advanced Practice Nurse - Cardiac Cath Lab - Temporary
Summary
The Schulich Heart Centre seeks a dynamic Advanced Practice Nurse to support and develop the professionalism of health care providers through proven clinical skills, commitment to patient‑centred care and adult education. The role requires strong knowledge, clinical expertise and interest in the area of Cardiac Care, and offers an opportunity to work collaboratively with other health care professionals within the Cardiac Program to advance clinical care of patients.
ResponsibilitiesThe APN is an active participant in identifying and addressing learning needs of nursing staff in collaboration with nursing leaders and leads the integration and evaluation of standards of nursing and evidence‑based practice through regular formal and informal educational programs. The APN supports staff in professional growth and reflective practice in concert with the College of Nurses Standards of Practice. The APN will mentor students and participate in research that relates directly to nursing standards and the quality of care.
The APN is ultimately responsible for improving care in ways that make a difference from the patients’/residents’ perspective.
Working collaboratively with the Patient Care Managers and Educators, the successful candidate will:
- Develop and promote best clinical practices for assigned areas
- Lead the integration of patient‑centred care initiatives
- Identify and effectively address a wide range of educational needs to members of the entire Patient Care team
- Identify and lead opportunities to conduct and integrate multidisciplinary research projects
- A graduate degree in Nursing or a related field is preferred (candidates without a graduate degree must be prepared to enroll in an appropriate graduate program within two years of appointment and demonstrate ongoing progress toward completion).
- 5 years recent related clinical experience
- Current College of Nurses of Ontario Certificate of Competence
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificates
- Demonstrated teaching and leadership abilities
- Proficient computer skills
- Evidence of consistent ongoing continuing education and professional development
- Skills/experience in adult education, program design, group facilitation, communication, and teamwork
- Previous teaching experience preferred
- Knowledge of adult learning/teaching styles
- Competency also required in research, public speaking, and scholarly writing
