Job Overview
We are seeking a part‑time, permanent Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Medical Withdrawal Service. The MWS supports adult clients with severe substance use, complex pain, mental health, and chronic medical conditions, requiring medically‑supervised withdrawal and medication initiation. Registered Nurses assess and support clients’ physiological stability, mental status, risks, functional ability, stage of change, coping skills, and motivation using harm reduction and measurement‑based care principles.
CommitmentThis part‑time permanent position is a 0.3 commitment, which may be subject to change as per the Collective Agreement. Additional hours may be available based on operational needs. The position is part of the ONA Bargaining Unit and requires 12‑hour shifts, days and nights, and some weekend work. It is located at the Queen Street Site.
Responsibilities- Use evidence‑based, standardized assessment and pharmacological protocols to accurately assess and monitor client progress.
- Administer medications safely via IV, perform wound care and prevent further physical destabilization of client health.
- Apply motivational interviewing skills to support clients in developing goals and strategies for early recovery.
- Provide leadership on the floor as Charge Nurse after 3:30 pm and on weekends.
- Participate in a robust orientation program and ongoing professional development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with clients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Competency in monitoring, assessment and documentation for mental health and substance‑related disorders, trauma‑responsive behaviours, mental status and physical health assessments, and response to pharmaceutical interventions.
- Motivation to develop knowledge and skills in trauma‑informed care, culturally competent care, crisis intervention, mental health and addiction diagnoses and treatment modalities.
- Motivation to develop group facilitation skills.
- Member in good standing as an RN with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate.
- Preference for candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing, a BSCN and/or CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.
- Psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions is an asset.
- Effective leadership, decision‑making, organizational and problem‑solving skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
$41.15 - $58.98 per hour.
