Sinai Health is looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to support our PAU/PACU Department. The role is primarily located at our Mount Sinai Hospital Campus. Reporting to the Senior Director Surgery and Oncology, the Clinical Nurse Specialist, PAU/PACU, functions as part of the inter-professional perioperative team providing leadership and demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skill to formulate clinical decisions and appropriately manage acute/chronic illness and promote wellness.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role involves:
1) developing and advancing nursing knowledge and the profession as a whole;
2) analyzing and synthesizing knowledge;
3) understanding, interpreting and applying theory and evidence informed research.
In this role you will:
- Foster and support the philosophy, goals, standards and values of SHS and the Department of Nursing
- Utilize and demonstrate a comprehensive, theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence in the care of surgical patients and their families
- Advocate for patient-centred care and coordinate health care to facilitate transitions among points of care in complex and unpredictable situations
- Function as a change agent in optimizing the RN role and creating safe and healthy workplace environments
- Provide consultation and facilitate knowledge translation in complex and unpredictable clinical situations that require advanced specialized knowledge and skill
- Maintain an environment conducive to learning and lead initiatives to promote professional growth, continuous learning and the collaborative practice of nurses to ensure patient safety and quality care
- Provide leadership for perioperative services quality improvement and program development that promotes, safe, effective and reliable care with a positive impact on patient, staff and system outcomes
- Use evidence informed research and outcome data to formulate, evaluate and revise:
1) standards of nursing practice;
2) practice guidelines;
3) education strategies, and
4) policies and procedures - Develop linkages within SHS and the community, including multi-cultural services to enhance continuity of care for patients
- Promote role of the CNS through involvement in committees, academic pursuits, professional development and participation in professional associations
- Participate in research activities
- Disseminate specialized knowledge and expertise and provide consultation to individuals and groups within the professional community
- Apply knowledge of existing resources, identify needs and advocate for cost effective initiatives at the clinical and organizational level
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required
Job Requirements:
Mandatory
- Current certificate of registration, in good standing, from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Master’s Degree in Nursing required (Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with a Master’s Degree in a related discipline may be considered)
- 5 years clinical experience in the specialty area
- Specialty certification-Perianaesthesia or Critical Care Nursing-CPN(C)
- Membership in professional nursing and specialty organizations
- Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution

This is a Temporary contract for up to Eighteen (18) months.

Hours (subject to change) : 37.5 hours per week; due to the nature of this position applicants must be flexible to work additional/ varied hours as required.
