Position Summary

The EMEREGENCY DEPARTMENT NURSE PRACTITIONER demonstrates autonomy while assuming and having sole accountability and the authority to independently communicate a diagnosis, prescribe drugs and order a range of diagnostic tests, the principal responsibilities include: utilizing and demonstrating advanced knowledge and decision making skills to conduct comprehensive assess, diagnose and manage the care of patients; planning and implementing strategies to promote health and prevent illness with individuals, families and groups;

delivering, coordinating and participating in educational and professional development activities/programs.

The EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT NURSE PRACTITIONER will also provide coverage (as required) for UHN’s Virtual Emergency Department, providing care to patients through video visits for urgent, non-life threatening issues via same day online bookings.

Duties
  • Utilizing and demonstrating advanced knowledge and decision making skills to conduct comprehensive assessments.
  • Diagnose and manage the care of patients.
  • Planning and implementing strategies to promote health
  • Prevent illness with individuals, families and groups.
  • Delivering, coordinating and participating in educational and professional development activities/programs.
Qualifications
  • Completion of Masters Degree Program in Nursing (or one semester from completion).
  • Registered Nurse (EC) certification complete or pending.
  • Nurse Practitioner (NP) Adult or Primary Care certificate complete or pending.
  • Current Certificate of Competence with College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Membership in the Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) organizations relevant to the role.
  • Canadian Nurses Association certification in Emergency Nursing preferred.
  • Five (5) years experience in Emergency Services preferred.
  • Experience in nursing research methodology.
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards.
  • Exercise initiative and good judgement with ability to multi-task.
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies.
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand.
  • Evidence of strong assessment skills and the ability to predict changes in patient status. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to utilize process of planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.
