JOB PURPOSE

Supports applicants with health conditions and/or matters related to conduct and/or character through the assessment of their suitability and eligibility to practice nursing using their knowledge of the Regulated Health Professions Act, Nursing Act, the Human Rights Code, and Intake policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assesses applicant information to determine risk and suitability for registration by handling intake and investigative concerns for applicants with history of academic dishonesty, criminal records, competency concerns, unregistered practitioners; analyzes information to determine appropriate regulatory response. Supports the Registrar and CEO or the Registration Committee by preparing reports for their review and decision; prepares and presents referral information to Registration Committee and responds to questions;

drafts decisions, agreements, undertakings and/or terms, conditions, and limitations. Contributes to and identifies areas for process improvements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Regulated professional with a university degree in the health field (e.g., BScN, MSW, MScPT, MScOT) or professionals with experience working in regulation. Three to five years relevant experience in investigations, risk management, quality practice, professional regulation, and procedural fairness.

Job Competencies, Knowledge, Skills

Attention to Detail – Requires close attention to details when reviewing information to assess if the applicant meets requirements, carefully reviews documents for authenticity and inconsistencies. Develops methods for organizing and tracking information and identifies key details when reviewing information from multiple sources.

Communication – Uses effective verbal and written communication skills to respond to inquiries, draft decisions, and share information with applicants, system partners, Registrar and CEO, and Registration Committee members. Messages are clear, shared in a timely manner, and ensure confidentiality and sensitivity to difficult situations. Adjusts communication delivery when difficulty in understanding arises.

Analytical and Critical Thinking – Uses knowledge and understanding of the Regulated Health Professions Act, Nursing Act, and the Human Rights Code to analyze significant and diverse amounts of information in the assessment of the applicant’s suitability and eligibility to practice nursing.

Planning and Organizing – Identifies competing priorities and uses excellent case management skills to assess, prioritize, and balance conflicting demands. Implements processes to facilitate time management.

Problem Solving – Analyzes information to determine appropriate regulatory response and proposes solution when preparing health and/or conduct referrals to the Registrar and CEO identifying the main issue, considering relevant facts, presenting options available and its implications and making recommendations that will address the issue.
