Surgical Care Registered Practical Nurse

Deliver pre-operative and post-operative patient care as a Registered Practical Nurse with surgical experience and strong clinical assessment skills. Support patients at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
This RPN role focuses on physical and psychological assessment, surgical preparation, recovery instruction, and discharge care. Success requires recent surgical experience, excellent prioritization, communication, organization, and computer skills. The nurse adapts to changing, stressful conditions while providing physical assistance and promoting Client-Centred Care in a clinic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare patients undergoing a variety of surgeries
Perform physical and psychological patient assessments
Provide post-operative recovery and pain-management teaching
Assist patients with transfers, mobilization, and ambulation
Collaborate closely with the RN and other providers
Requirements:
Current Ontario College of Nurses registration
RPN diploma, BCLS, and recent surgical experience
Completed Physical Assessment and Medication Administration courses
Venipuncture IV certification with phlebotomy skills
Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities under stress
Use surgical nursing knowledge, communication, and prioritization skills to provide organized, client-centred care throughout the surgical journey.
