Veterinary Technologist – Casual

• Perform animal management and animal health checks
• Gather appropriate samples for diagnostic purposes e.g. blood, urine, feces, swabs
• Administer treatments as required under veterinary supervision
• Issue sick reports as required
• Operate specialized containment equipment such as biological safety cabinets, laminar flow racks, ventilated racks and autoclaves
• Perform routine laboratory health surveillance e.g. pinworm check, fecal examination, blood sampling
• Implement disease control requirements including treatment, signage, protective clothing as advised by veterinary or managerial staff
• Wear personal protective equipment as appropriate
• May perform the duties of a Laboratory Animal Technician III
• Other related duties as required

• University degree in a related field
• Registered Laboratory Animal Technician with the Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Science and/or completion of a recognized Veterinary Technology Diploma
• One year of related experience
• Physically capable of performing the required duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs
• No history of animal-related allergies
• Willing to participate in University Health and Safety Program
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written)
• Ability to take direction and work independently
• Possession of a Provincial Class 'G' Drivers license may be required
• Availability to work weekends and holidays as required
