Veterinary Technologist – Casual

- Perform animal management and animal health checks
- Gather appropriate samples for diagnostic purposes e.g. blood, urine, feces, swabs
- Administer treatments as required under veterinary supervision
- Issue sick reports as required
- Operate specialized containment equipment such as biological safety cabinets, laminar flow racks, ventilated racks and autoclaves
- Perform routine laboratory health surveillance e.g. pinworm check, fecal examination, blood sampling
- Implement disease control requirements including treatment, signage, protective clothing as advised by veterinary or managerial staff
- Wear personal protective equipment as appropriate
- May perform the duties of a Laboratory Animal Technician III
- Other related duties as required
- University degree in a related field
- Registered Laboratory Animal Technician with the Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Science and/or completion of a recognized Veterinary Technology Diploma
- One year of related experience
- Physically capable of performing the required duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs
- No history of animal-related allergies
- Willing to participate in University Health and Safety Program
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written)
- Ability to take direction and work independently
- Possession of a Provincial Class 'G' Drivers license may be required
- Availability to work weekends and holidays as required
