Job SummaryUnder guidance, direction and general supervision, sets-up, operates test equipment and conducts specific and routine tests. Disassembles and assembles test samples. Records technical data, drafts reports, writes product descriptions. Notes and records substandard features of products. Acts as an assistant in complex or unusual tests, under guidance from senior staff. Maintains good housekeeping at all times.
PrincipalDuties & Responsibilities
- Completion of Work Orders to ensure projects can be closed; timely completion of Work Orders to improve customer loyalty
- Maintains good housekeeping, taking care of safety and using PPE at all times.
- Sets-up and operates all test equipment and performs all tests within a certain product area; determines compliance with requirements and recommends the granting of certification; carries out specialized testing when required.
- Performs the tests in accordance with work orders issued by jobholders; conducts routine tests independently; acts as an assistant in complex or unusual tests, under guidance from senior staff or job holder when performing one or more phases of the test work (i.e. re-examination and audits & investigation tests).
- Records technical data, drafts reports, writes product descriptions.
- Performs mathematical calculations required to summarize test results. Relates test results to product specification. Acts as an liaison with other departments as required by PGM.
- Assembles and disassembles test samples, hooks-up laboratory test equipment in preparation for testing; operates most laboratory test equipment.
- Notes and records discrepancies of products which may appear before or during the tests and refer them to PGM, Certifier or Senior Lab Tech.
- Maintains good housekeeping of tools, equipment and work area following tests and carry out assigned laboratory clean-up duties.
- Knowledge on how to operate basic test equipment.
- May require to purchase tools/equipment from outside shops.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Manager.
- Needs to be knowledgeable of safe practices; ability to move equipment around with assistance or independently; follow safety practices; maybe required to do shift work; ability to interact with internal customers as well as external with guidance; ability to use a variety of equipment to perform daily tasks.
- 3-year Engineering Technician (OACETT) or equivalent
- Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology
- 3-4 years related experience
As per the collective agreement, the starting bi-weekly pay rate for a Lab Tech I is $ CAD gross and $ CAD gross for a Lab Tech II. CSA Group reserves the right to determine the appropriate level and pay step within the band, and this will depend on factors such as education, licenses, certifications and experience. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our annual bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
