- Assist in the development and implementation of HSE policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, near misses, and safety training sessions, ensuring that all documentation is up-to-date and accessible.
- Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to promote a culture of safety and to address any HSE concerns that arise during project execution.
- Organize and facilitate safety training sessions and workshops for employees, ensuring that all staff members are equipped with the necessary knowledge to work safely.
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives, providing recommendations for improvement as needed.
- Assist in the investigation of accidents and incidents, compiling reports and identifying root causes to prevent future occurrences.
- Stay informed about industry best practices and changes in legislation related to health and safety and environmental management, sharing relevant updates with the team.
- Support the preparation of HSE-related documentation for project bids and proposals, showcasing Broccolini's commitment to safety and compliance.
- Foster strong relationships with regulatory agencies, ensuring that Broccolini remains in good standing with all safety compliance requirements.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and contribute to the development of safety improvement strategies.
- Provide administrative support to the HSE department, including managing schedules, preparing reports, and maintaining safety equipment inventory.
- A diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the construction or real estate development industry.
- Strong knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Proven ability to conduct safety audits and inspections, with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, for reporting and presentation purposes.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to fostering a safe work environment.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR is an asset.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems and practices is a plus.
- Experience with safety management software or tools.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 or similar safety management standards.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an advantage.
- Previous experience in a construction environment or with construction safety regulations.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess risks and develop effective safety solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport with team members and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
- Familiarity with data analysis tools and reporting software to track safety performance metrics.
- This position is based in Toronto, Ontario, and may require occasional travel to project sites within the region.
