Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Food Safety & Quality Assurance (Dir., FSQA), the Quality Assurance Manager (QA Mgr.) ensures compliance with all regulatory and customer requirements, maintains excellence in food safety and quality systems, and fosters a strong food safety culture at New Toronto Food (NTF). This role requires in‑depth knowledge of Safe Foods for Canadians Regulations, GFSI schemes (SQF/FSSC 22000), and experience managing an in‑house laboratory.

The QA Mgr. leads, mentors, and supports the QA team while partnering with Operations, Production, Warehouse, and cross‑functional departments to verify processes, drive continuous improvement, and maintain robust quality systems. This role requires flexibility, as the QA Mgr. will be visiting and be responsible for overseeing QA activities across multiple sites.

Responsibilities:
1. Product Quality and Food Safety:
  • Lead the site food safety team; develop, maintain, and continuously improve NTF’s HACCP and Quality Management Systems.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Product Development, Procurement, and Commercial teams to integrate quality processes and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Support and lead internal and external audits; address all non‑conformances with timely corrective/preventive actions.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints and internal non‑conformities, performing root‑cause analysis and implementing CAPA initiatives.
2. Operational

Collaboration:
  • Partner with Operations and Warehouse teams to ensure compliance with sanitation, hygiene, GMPs, and related training.
  • Develop, review, and update SOPs, programs, forms, and related quality and sanitation documentation.
  • Support building and maintaining a strong quality‑focused culture across production and distribution environments.
3. Compliance & Continuous Improvement:
  • Operational Collaboration.
  • Partner with Operations and Warehouse teams to ensure compliance with sanitation, hygiene, GMPs, and related training.
  • Develop, review, and update SOPs, programs, forms, and related quality and sanitation documentation.
  • Support building and maintaining a strong quality focused culture across production and distribution environments.
4. Process & Product Specific Responsibilities:
  • Environmental monitoring program oversight (swabbing, trending, corrective actions).
  • Specification management for raw materials & finished goods.
  • Oversight of shelf‑life and stability testing.
  • Label review and regulatory compliance for packaging and claims.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor the Quality Assurance team, fostering accountability, growth, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee laboratory functions including in‑process testing, allergen control, online quality checks, and finished product testing.
  • Manage staffing levels, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet business targets and budget expectations.
  • Deliver effective training to enhance understanding of food safety and quality standards across the organization.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director, FSQA.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and/or Food Science
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in quality assurance management in a food manufacturing environment; knowledge of food regulations and quality standards is required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in team management, leadership/coaching of a team dedicated to quality assurance, preferably in food production
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food safety regulations and quality management systems (FSSC 22000, SQF, GMP, HACCP, CFIA, etc.), including program development, implementation, and auditing.
  • Strong understanding of quality control standards, statistical methods, and quality tools.
  • Proven leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate and influence teams.
