Postdoctoral Fellow Position in Human Inner Ear Computational Biology

Sunnybrook Research Institute & University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Full‑time, 2‑year renewable postdoctoral fellowship (PhD required). Position focuses on decoding the molecular landscape of the human inner ear during development and regeneration, translating findings to advance therapeutic strategies for hearing loss and balance dysfunction.

Responsibilities
  • Lead projects using single‑cell and multi‑omic sequencing, performing bioinformatics analyses of single‑nuclei RNA‑seq and ATAC‑seq data.
  • Interpret and visualize complex datasets, integrating results with experimental data.
  • Contribute to research design, data management, tool development, manuscript and grant writing, and presentation at scientific meetings.
  • Actively participate in collaborative projects, training initiatives, and group infrastructure development.
Qualifications
  • Recent PhD or MD/PhD (0–2 years postdoctoral experience) in computational biology, bioinformatics, or closely related disciplines.
  • Proven expertise in bioinformatics, statistics, and proficiency in programming (R and/or Python).
  • Experience with ‘omic’ datasets (proteomics, transcriptomics, and/or epigenomics); snRNA‑seq and snATAC‑seq analysis preferred.
  • First‑author publications in high‑quality journals.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Preferred Skills
  • Data quality control and large multi‑omic dataset management, high‑performance computing.
  • Advanced data visualization, tool/method development, and presentation skills.
  • Manuscript and grant preparation experience.
  • Interest in mentoring and training team members.
