Shkaabe Makwa and the Institute for Mental Health Policy Research (IMHPR) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) are seeking a Research Coordinator for a full-time one-year contract position. Reporting to the Manager for the First Nations Wellness Initiative, Shkaabe Makwa. The Research Coordinator will support a research project funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research entitled, the First Nations Wellness Initiative.
Responsibilities- The Research Coordinator will assist with coordinating various stages of research using Indigenous research methodologies including the gathering of data and knowledge translation activities.
- Coordinate and attend meetings of the Community Advisory Circles for participating communities; support community engagement; recruit participants in various stages of research including focus groups, one-to-one interviews and Participatory Action Research (PAR).
- Organize and carry out required tasks in the community and data gathering activities, including facilitating PAR workshops/focus groups, conducting qualitative interviews, obtaining informed consent from participating community members.
- Ensure culturally safe and ethical processes associated with the storage of data are adhered to; compile and organize large volumes of information; conduct qualitative data analyses; prepare visual graphics; assist with the development of community reports and other knowledge mobilization products.
- Connect with the larger research team regularly; perform other duties as determined throughout the project.
- Prepare research study protocols and Research Ethics Board (REB) submissions to ensure study activities comply with institutional requirements.
- Prepare data for presentations and assist with knowledge translation initiatives.
- Knowledge of Indigenous data governance and OCAP®, the National Inuit Strategy on Research, and Principles of Ethical Métis Research Canada.
- Ensure research is culturally sensitive and addresses impacts of colonization, historical loss, trauma, and intergenerational consequences; adhere to CAMH data privacy and confidentiality protocols.
- Be part of a healthy workplace that embraces diversity and complies with regulatory requirements.
- This is a full-time 12-month contract; hours may vary and travel within Ontario is required.
- Master’s degree in health or social sciences or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge/experience in relational research with First Nations. Asset: knowledge related to mental health, substance use, addictions, or trauma.
- Experience in community-based participatory action research, trauma-informed practice, data collection techniques and data management.
- Strong interviewing and discussion group facilitation skills; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; detail-oriented.
- Experience with Microsoft Office; ability to support hybrid/virtual work; ability to conduct qualitative analyses with software (e.g., NVivo).
- Strong communication and collaboration; ability to work independently and with diverse groups; orientation to deadlines and project deliverables.
- Two and a half day CAMH orientation; reliable transportation for term; bilingualism in French/English or Indigenous language asset.

Salary Range: $37.51-$50.60
