Job Description
Reporting directly to the Department Head, the LC‑MS/MS Specialist (Analyst III) will provide advanced technical support and analysis within the Food Chemistry team, responsible for method development, transfer, and routine analysis of raw material, bulk and finished products.
- Perform method development, validation, transfer and routine analyses using LC‑MS/MS instrumentation.
- Learn and apply advanced instrumentation techniques (HPLC, GC, GC‑MS/MS, ICP‑MS, etc.) and related software (Empower, Chromeleon, Analyst, Mass Hunter).
- Review data, prepare protocols and reports to meet project timelines.
- Train new analysts in LC‑MS/MS techniques.
- Prepare samples and perform routine/non‑routine methods, including validation, verification and testing.
- Conduct instrument calibration, qualification and preventative maintenance.
- Investigate and troubleshoot non‑confirmatory results or methods.
- Follow Quality System documents (Quality Manual, SOPs, GMP/GLP/USP, Methods) and adhere to quality standards.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed for quality control and regulatory purposes.
- Mentor junior staff to achieve quality and turnaround time metrics.
- Ensure R&D turnaround time goals are met or exceeded.
- Clean labware, perform decontamination, prepare media and storage as needed.
- Execute tasks directed by supervisor or management to meet monthly R&D targets.
- Work competently without direct supervision while applying technical laboratory skills.
- Adapt quickly to new techniques, multitask, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.
- Experience developing new methods and method transfer validation.
- Handle a variety of sample types efficiently.
- Carry out sample preparation procedures and analyses.
- Follow directions accurately.
- Strong computer and organizational skills.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Skilled in data/report generation, retrieval and interpretation of routine analysis.
- Experienced in operation, routine maintenance and troubleshooting of specified instrumentation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- 6+ years working with applied chemistry techniques.
- Experience working with organic matrices (preferably food).
- Experience in a contract laboratory considered an asset.
- Proficiency with MS Office.
- Working knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- B.Sc. degree in Chemistry or a related field, or equivalent diploma.
- Strong background in chemistry required.
- Laboratory environment; standing for >50% of time; light lifting up to 20 lb (10 kg). Hazardous materials handled with proper safety procedures and PPE. Extra hours, weekends and evenings may be required.
