Your opportunity:


Working under the supervision of the Research Awards & Honours Strategy Officer and reporting to the Director of Research Services, the Research Awards & Honours Coordinator will play a critical role in supporting the development of competitive research awards, honours, and prize nominations for Arts & Science (A&S) faculty members. The position will work closely with faculty members across A&S academic units and play a key role in supporting A&S departmental and divisional Research awards committees.

Responsibilities will include developing research award strategies, providing expert council on the development of awards dossiers, researching, drafting and editing nomination materials for various research awards and honours, coordinating letters of reference, verifying that submission materials meet awarding agency/ foundation standards, and interpreting and applying policies and procedures. You will liaise with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders and deliver presentations to promote research awards programs.

You will also develop research awards competition schedules and processes, track nomination activities and contribute to and draw upon a centralized institutional awards and honours database, ensure timely delivery of awards and honours information to support A&S communications activities, organize logistical details and activities for meetings, events and/or programming, and take minutes at committee meetings.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing plans that support the attainment of research awards and honours
  • Assessing and recommending academics for research related awards and prizes
  • Leading seminars and/or workshops
  • Drafting and editing funding applications
  • Verifying research funding proposals are complete, accurate and adhereto sponsor guidelines
  • Applying and interpreting policies and procedures in decision-making independently
  • Promoting research initiatives to increase program visibility and reputation
  • Fostering and maintaining relationships with existing and potential sponsors


Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years working in an academic research administration, government/funding agency environment or related work experience related to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting faculty/researchers in the preparation, creating and editing of research award submission materials.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating the implementation of research administration projects and programs and ability to foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with information management and data analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills and a commitment to delivering the highest level of customer service.
  • Strong computer skills with experience in MS Office such as Word, PowerPoint, One Drive, SharePoint, Excel, various media and digital platforms and other software packages.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Experience workingin a similar research administration office setting is desirable.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
