Your opportunity:
The Office of the Vice Dean, Research, Innovation & Health Science Education oversees all research undertaken for the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and coordinates with its counterparts at the affiliated hospital research institutes for clinical research. This includes grant proposal development, administering internal funding allocations, collecting and reporting on research productivity metrics, and managing core research facilities.
As the Research Funding & Awards Officer, you will support the Office of the Research, Innovation & Health Science Education in advancing research funding and impact across the Temerty Faculty of Medicine. Working in collaboration with faculty, administrators, the Division of the Vice-President, Research & Innovation, and other internal and external stakeholders, you will support the development and submission of research funding applications, enhance proposal materials to meet sponsor and institutional guidelines, and contribute to awards-related processes.
Drawing on your strong editorial, analytical, and coordination skills, you will also support project planning, reporting, and initiatives that advance the Faculty’s broader research priorities.
Your responsibilities will include:
Coordinating and guiding applicants through various phases of the research funding application process, along with writing and editing funding proposalsConducting detailed analysis of application policy to maximize research funding and research trends to strengthen proposals, including advising on application content andfunding opportunitiesImplementing plans and process improvements for funding activities as well as developing plans that support proposal development strategiesResearching and analyzing potential research awards and prizes and recommending academics for nomination, including drafting and editing recommendation lettersDeveloping project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables, reporting and tracking milestones and timelines by generating reportsDeveloping and implementing communication plans including producing promotional and outreach materials, drafting and delivering presentations, and writing and editing reportsCollating and organizing materials for research proposal submissions and verifying that submission materials meet required standardsPlanning and estimating financial resources required for programs and/or projectsEssential
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree ina related field or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experienceMinimum five (5) years of relevant work experience in research administration, research funding, proposal development, and awards processes, preferably within an academic, healthcare, or research environmentExperience with the federal and provincial grant cycles and funding programs,
including infrastructure grants (CFI), Tri-Agency operating grants (CIHR/NSERC/SSHRC) and Canada Research Chairs (CRC)Demonstrated experience with development of funding applications from drafting proposals and supporting their associated budgets, to submissionDemonstrated experience in liaising with senior administrators and responding to and handling matters of a complex and sensitive natureDemonstrated experience with drafting senior level documents including writing and editing nomination letters for awardsFamiliarity with research funding and awards opportunities databases and resourcesDemonstrated project management coordination experienceStrong proficiency with MS Office and related software, including advanced proficiency in MS…
